I cleared out the Geography, Flora and Fauna area. It's best if we just leave it specifically for informative posts, so that we don't have to scroll through discussions, it's just supposed to be an archive.

We can discuss anything placed there, here and then if there are any discrepancies or things to add the original writer can go back and modify their post.

That way we keep it clean, organized and easy to scroll though.

Eventually I'll delete all my banter in the first post and add a map of the world that we can constantly add to as things progress, or memories are jarred.

Now, if there is any information on any of these muties of yours you can do write up on each and post them in the 'Geography, Flora and Fauna. It's up to you, it's only necessary if any of these creatures has some unique abilities that everyone else would not be aware of.

I mainly thought to do this, so that some of the crazy ideas I have are not too 'Out of the Box'. I can submit something and you guys can let me know if I'm going too Gamma World.

It's also nice to have a bestiary to refer to.

So I just threw the Oasis in the Desert out there. Don't force stories together on my account, but at least Plymuth is in the same general vicinity. I just loved the imagery of giant fake palm tree in the middle of arid steppes.

The hotel being the strongest structure of the small town, would have been able to survive the fringe of a nuclear blast, while other small buildings would have been damaged. That's sort of the idea. It would be common stop point for travelers, and the trapped doorway would be common knowledge for them. It is just to ensure that any animal mutants to go poking around in their rest spot.

It this is not possible in this world then I'll re-write the scene and make it a shack or something.

I personally see no problem with it and it would be a good waypoint for our fugitives to head for first I think.

So anyone considering to check into the Oasis, should know that Texan and his yet unnamed slave are completely up for grabs. As I have stated before, my NPC's are pretty much community property, unless I otherwise mention a personal interest them. Move them, kill them, whatever you like.

Texan is Human, and a complete asshole... if it were me personally in that hotel I'd a laid him out and left him for dead, if he wasn't so big. Maybe I'd sneak up behind him and crack him on the ol' bean. Plymuth, however, lives by his own code of ethics, whether they be wrong or right.

The price for lodging is disarming the trap and the door to it is fairly noticeable, but I guess one would have to suspect it was useful to check it out. I dunno. I also have no idea what the trap is, it's meant to discourage beasties from entering so I guess it could be anything.

The setting of the hotel has hardly been set so just about anything goes... I was kind of picturing your basic small town hotel... similar to smaller version of a Holiday Inn.

Oh trust me, I'm sure Tex is gonna have his hands full.

The next obvious question is. In which direction is the Oasis, keeping in mind that Leo's home is east. That is where Kitty and Leo were going I believe. So the Oasis would logicaly be either east, souteast or northeast of the "fugitives" present location which, if my memory serves me correctly was a devestaed St. Louis, Missouri. But as always I could have things front to back and down to up.

I remember something about St. Louis as well, but for all we know the face of the earth has been drastically changed after the cataclysmic events during the end of the world.

But, more importantly, St. Louis was merely the beginning of the story, before we rebooted it and Kitty moved some unspecified place, wherever her home happens to be.

I haven't got a clue where we might be at this point in time. And, though Tiph might want to know for a map, I don't think it matters to the story.

Damned Tiph and his desire to put everything into some kind of rule or graphic that leaves us with almost no wiggling room.

I haven't looked at any maps... but the Oasis, is to the West of St. Louis.

Even before I was considering a post, that is exactly what I was thinking Socks. Earth's axis is naturally, shifting with time, so things would be a little different now. But I stress 'a little'. Now, if a nuclear war was able to shift the planet a bit more, which I doubt, the weather would be different as well.

For a drastic change in Earth's axis, we would have to be nearly missed by a comet or something. Unless of course we are in fact 10,000 years in the future or more.

Yes, I can't help it with my maps. I love having some defined parameters, but in this case it is not really necessary, since, hey... it's Earth. I just really love, making up maps, especially ones that portray a cataclysm.

I made one up once... long ago. What we have to consider are rising water levels. I imagine the caps have melted somewhat... and no it's not Water World... the added mix, really wouldn't flood our planet to that extent. Our coastlines should, however, be drastically different. Part of California should be in the ocean, as the fault would have no doubt given way.

In Canada, Hudson Bay would be massive, and would have returned to being Lake Agassi (I think that was the name) dipping down beyond the American border.

Stuff like that...

Or actually sea level may have lowered after the end of the world.

Large volcanic eruptions blow incredible amounts of dust into the atmosphere which block sunlight which then cause temperatures to drop. Blow enough dust into the air and you'll suddenly have a world which is a lot colder. The dust won't stay in the air forever, but despite that the damage may have been done and the planet starts to cool.

A sudden cooling of the earth would increase the size of the polar ice caps and other patches of snow and ice. These white surfaces will reflect more light than whatever it covered and thus instead of warming we could very well have cooling even after the dust literally settles.

I don't care either way, just saying it can go either way and there's no reason to believe one must be the true apocalyptic future over the other. And the deserts we've been describing can exist either way, despite the world having cooled (if we assume that). They would probably be a little colder than a typical desert we know, but they'd be just as arid and sandy, so it'd be hard to tell the difference anyway.

Kitty's underground bunker was in the city formorlly known as St. Louis, but since the apocolypse and the fall out for all the years later, the climate has changed from lush vegitation to that of a barren wasteland. It's only in sproatic spots in the world now that any kind of fresh water and green grass and other plants are found. Paradise is one of those places, or at least it's what the band of travelers is being led to believe.

Anyway....it doesn't really matter. Basically the earth doesn't have different climates and seasons anymore. It's either a barren desert or a lush paradise. And getting from one of those lush paradises to the next is tking your life in your hands because you HAVE to cross the desert to get to them.

a) I wouldn't worry too much about geography. Only if it pertains to the story--and since information definitely doesn't travel much in this time, most people don't know anything about geography unless they've traveled a lot, which most people don't because it's too dangerous.

b.) If Oasis is west of St. Louis, they definitely aren't going there. The heroes are already east of St. Louis and going further east...
