| It's probably reasonable to put some restrictions on new threads then.
Story threads have a certain life span and none are forever. Making sure a story will have ample support before allowing it to begin will go a long way in making sure it won't fail miserably too soon. Two or three people in a thread will suffer more from absences and even without those these stories might go stale after a short while.
It still depends though.
Especially on itchy testicles.
Even for those who don't have any.
Don't make too many rules, the damned rule post is long enough as it is. There's a bell shaped curve that depicts the optimal amount of rules. Too little and there's anarchy, too much and it gets too complicated and we're going to need forum lawyers to get us through the day.
Just put comatose threads in a bin somewhere to keep things tidy.
And if you really believe such rules are important for a tightly moderated story then I suggest adding them to the specific thread before it goes underway. Everyone involved will then be appraised of the rules and knows what to do. I wouldn't clutter the general rules with exceptions. _________________ Oh, Lord. Why does the robot have a mustache? | Well said Socks. And I don't think it has to be added to the 'LAWS'. Maybe just a separate post in the same area mentioning the conduct, that's all. You are right that too many rules start to ruin the environment. I saw that on an episode of 'Johnny and the Sprites'. The sprites made up too many rules and the grove wasn't fun anymore. _________________ |

| If we are all in aggrement that should a story creator vanish (1) notification is given (2) then the remaining contributors may continue the story in the direction of natural course, Then I say "Let it be written, Let it be so." Perhaps placing it in a Guidline section or Story Creator's Advisory Section or some sort. Dann |

| A 'suggestion' nearby laws sounds good, and I think Socks's idea that carved-in-stone rules on the matter need only be posted in the thread to which they apply. The 'suggestion' post will give newcomers an idea of what is expected of them if they want to start a story, and the rules in the thread will keep the laws from being cluttered.
LET IT BE WRITTEN (?)

| Ramses? What are you talking about, that's a picture of Socks!

Fun aside, I agree that another post should be made in 'Tyr's Laws of the Bridge'. Perhaps a topic like 'The Responsibilities of Running a Story', obviously too long but something along those lines. If people think it should be more generic then that sounds good as well.
Then it exists and should the situation ever arise, there is no need to repeat the discussion. _________________ |

| Sounds good to me and within this new topic in the laws section, perhaps an advisory thread could be created to act as a place to set advisories of impending actions on an abandoned story or absent creator. Thus posting it publicly, in event of an email addy change. Also satisfying the Sunshine Law and Freedom Of Information Act for all you ACLU members. Just me and my over active brain rambling again.

Sometimes the road leads through dark places Sometimes the darkness is your friend Today these eyes scan bleached out land for the outgoing stage Pacing the cage." ...... Jimmy Buffett "Pacing The Cage" |

| Loosely stating, yes, that is a lovely picture of me.
You're just jealous of my ability to reflect light off my skull and my beautiful throne.
The lighting was a bit off though, I'm not usually that red...
PS. Johnny and the Sprites rule! (without too many rules)
I still think you people are silly with your need for writing this stuff down, but who am I to stop you? I could try reflecting light into your eyes with the powers of my shiny scalp but that's about it. And I'm far too lazy to even do that, soooo. (I mean, just look at my pose in that throne. It's obvious that I'm not getting up over anything minor) _________________ Oh, Lord. Why does the robot have a mustache? I grew it with my human lip. Is... Is that a fact? | I agree with Socks, up to the point of not writing it down anywhere. Must be the glare, gives me a headache…
I would think a "moderator missing plan of action" would go right next to the anticipated posting pace of the thread. If you are planning on posting once a month for example, a two week absence should not be a surprise to the people in the story.
It depends! But should be noted.
“It depends” is my favorite Universal Answer to any question… that and “bend over and I’ll tell you” but one is much more work appropriate than the other.

| Perhaps one more suggestion to new users like myself...Hi Group...waves to all... After spending time in delphi and hof...waiting for a response by the MODS or the OWNER of the storyline... I find it very difficult at times to continue writing as a player when waiting for a response. In one of the forums I wrote in, I WAITED FOR ALMOST 4 WEEKS for the person to respond. Their RPPGM was her BF and saw where several players were talking about the problem of waiting for a response in the story. A OOC offline topic discussed amongst players about what to do about this. The BF was upset at the room and ready to shut down the whole operation. He wouldnt go into detail and so two players (main characters) quit the room. When the owner got back on her feet, she was upset because her time was spent in a hospital fighting cancer. What Im saying is if there was someone close to her like her BF could have let the room know what circumstance was ongoing or that personal time was needed and the story would be continued when she returned. So in your protocol, I suggest the use of a second entrusted person close to the writer be appointed. Having another player as the alternate contact inwhich one could contact the player offline using other means of communication. Cell Phone another email addy. Easy |

| That makes total sense, Easy. For the most part, we all pretty well much know what's up with everyone but there are times when things could happen.
I have been hashing up the whole idea you pointed out. I'm sure now that it's out in the open, we'll get a game plan in place.
Thanks!! _________________ Eagles may soar in the clouds, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.
