Actually we started doing that in 'Heroes — New Dawn' but we fell off the wagon in Chapter 3 mainly because writing summaries can be a little time consuming and of course it has to be done right. A summary can very quickly become a re-write and defeat the purpose of a 'quick catch-up'.
Since I have been where you are many times I at one time took it upon myself to write 'Re-caps' once in a while but they just get lost in the stories and someone new would never know to look for them. I thus abandoned the idea and decided that others would have to do what I did and that's sit down and read through everything. This is of course... LABORIOUS!
Now, revisiting this idea I realize that the best way we can accomplish this task is to create a 'Summary Topic'. During a current chapter any participant in the story can then write a little summary and condense a span of posts. A minimum of five or six I would say or depending on the length of content (I have tendency to rather wordy at times so three of my posts may warrant a summary).
I will start one in 'Heroes — New Dawn', and illustrate the idea. Perhaps then we can do the same in other stories and provide new writers an easier time jumping into a story.
I have observed in the past within other forums that this is one of the main reason the stories remain exclusive, but then again when you turn the tables, the exclusion may also be viewed at as rite of passage. I would say that people using the summaries to gain a foothold, should also try and delve into the past chapters and sift through a few posts if only to get a better feel for the story before they add their brush to the canvas.
