|  Name: John McManus Alias: Gearbox, one time government operative. Physical Description: John is a hulk of a man, he is over 6 feet tall-weight unknown. John is an ex-boxing champion and a professional mechanic. John wears faded blue jeans and old t shirts-the t shirts are usually old concert t shirts. John wears a black steel toed work boot on his right leg. John's left leg is missing below the knee, his right hand is missing at the wrist. In place of these are two mechanical limbs of John's own designs. His mech hand is over sized and is designed to look and work like a boxing glove, it has three chunky fingers and a thumb. His mech leg is even more over sized and very heavy. John's face is scarred and sports a permanent broken nose, he has been through a lot. John wears an old fashioned, raggedy street cap. John always sports a buzzed head and five o'clock shadow. Personality: John is an old school tough guy and a consummate scrapper, he is a man of action and is always among the first into the breach. John does not smile much but does have a sense of humor. John hates criminals and will punish them with prejudice. John loves cars and working on them. Quirks and Flaws: John is considerably slower than most people, his mech leg is heavy and cumbersome. John can be heard coming from some distance, the motors in his mech limbs click and whir, his leg drags a little. John has trouble trusting anyone and counts Yelena, Cowboy and DiVine among the chosen few. John has a temper, it gets in his way. John has a soft spot for antique cars. John's mech limbs are subject to damage in extended melee. History and Background: John was a happy nobody living in Bayonne New Jersey, he had a mechanic's garage there and loved to repair cars. A run in with the local organized crime syndicate left his shop burned out and him missing a hand and most of a leg. John literally rebuilt himself and paid the injustices done to him back in full. He caught the attention of the federal government and agreed to be a government operative for a time. During his time as a federal employee he fought along side Cowboy, Yelena, Herman, Bug, Otis, Di Vine and many other memorable meta-humans. The Riggs act put an end to that and now John lives in a world hostile to the very people they had begged for help years before. John has spent his time lately trying to guarantee the safety of his former teammates and staying out of the hands of the government and most certainly R.A.I.D. John has been missing from the team for many months, he is currently in R.A.I.D. custody and deep inside a secure facility. John is locked away like a common criminal, they even confiscated his arm and leg. Skills and Powers: John has no meta-powers per say, he is outfitted with his mech hand and mech leg. John is tough as leather and a natural fighter. John is also a genius when it comes to anything with moving parts. John's hand must be wound on occasion, it is mechanical in nature and not cybernetic. John must wind the hand with a key that resembles a skate key, the key is inserted into the corresponding slot in the palm. John wears the key on a chain around his neck. The hand allows John to easily bend steel, or crush a brick to dust. It also punches like hell. The many motors in John's leg are charged by his walking. The leg allows John to jump 20 to 30 feet in any direction, even straight up. The leg is also equipped with a large spike that will anchor John to concrete or asphalt if necessary. It also kicks like a mule. John is a genius at mechanics, he can just about repair or fix anything if he has the tools. John is not well versed in advanced computers or electronics, he's strictly a gear head. |

| HEROES: The Breakaway - Character  Height: 6'2" • Weight: 220lbs • Crystal Blue Eyes • Pale Sandy Coloured HairJaper Flash, also known as 'Joy Buzzer' to those on the streets of his island. An Irish National transplanted in America. Handsome and charming, many would not at first hand believe that he grew up in a Dublin slum but the more one gets to know him, the more the 'streets' emerge in his character. Most comfortable with a pool cue in his hand he spends most of his time in back street pubs scraping a living from his winnings on the table. Unfortunately he's not the best of the best when it comes to the game, so he has to rely on other means, of the illegal type to support himself. When he needs money he resort to 'collecting' using his talents to squeeze out the money from those who owe his employers. He can generate electricity from the static in the air and also produce electro-magnetic fields that can push and pull metal objects by using other fixed metal objects around him. Without conductors, the range of his ability natural diminishes, so he carries with him at all times an aluminum cane with a copper core. The rod allows him to channel his electrical and draw an arc between him and a desired target. Most of the time, however, he relies on his enhanced attributes and fighting skills in close ranged combat in which he is able to use his electrical attack on contact. He possesses as many meta-humans do, greater strength, speed and coordination that makes him more than a match for even exceptional Humans in single combat. In a world dependent on electronic devices, Japer Flash is plagued with becoming over charged and so he must constantly regulate his body by dumping off his excess power. Even though he would be virtually immune to the effects of RAID plasma weapons, too much of a surge from one of these weapons can still over load him and cause him to spontaneously burst into an electrical storm, temporarily dazing him. He thus seeks those places which are more low tech. Quiet old style pubs without hot-spots and one TV behind the bar are his usual haunts. ReputationJasper is low profile. In Dublin's back streets the name of Joy Buzzer was fairly well known, but he wasn't notorious. In the States, he is virtually unknown. R.A.I.D. can of course access his records from abroad, but Joy Buzzer has hardly been in the public eye. _________________

|  Name: Fyedka Romanov Alias: Shadow Age: 24 Description: Fyedka is tall, lithe, and strikingly handsome. His straight, black hair is usually tied back and falls just between his shoulder blades. His eyes are a dark sort of jade green and his skin is relatively pale. On his back is a strange black mark like a tattoo of an intricate, twisting, almost tribal design that takes up his entire back. Closer inspection would reveal that it is actually a part of his skin, as though it changed color along the lines of the design rather than with the injection of ink. He dresses as normally as he can in jeans and a plain shirt. Personality: Fyedka is somewhat shy at first, awkward in his words. Though he enjoys being around people, he often doesn't know what to say and so ends up keeping to himself. Introverted and mostly quiet, he has been mostly a loner since the appearance of his meta abilities and has grown, out of survival, somewhat suspicious of others and does not trust easily. He has a long fuse and is no quicker to fight than he is to anger, but he will not hesitate to do what he feels is immediately necessary to save himself. Should he find someone who just strikes him, even for a moment, as an innocent in need, however, he will offer his help in any way he can. So long as someone has his trust, he will be loyal to them, but he is also smart and street savvy and will never let his guard down. Powers/Abilities: Shadow manipulation: So long as there are shadows around, Fyedka can stretch and manipulate them to cause damage. The more shadows, the more power he has. He can also create golems, shadowy creatures with glowing red eyes, which may do his bidding for him. Should someone shine a light directly on them, however, the golems will vanish. Shroud: Fyedka can create darkness around a limited area that will blind everyone within it, including, unfortunately, Fyedka himself. Because it is simply his own artificial darkness, he is not able to manipulate it like he can normal shadows. Fighting: Fyedka is formally trained in karate, but is only barely a shodan (first level black belt) Athleticism: Fyedka is generally more fit and flexible than the average human, though his skills don't raise above a natural ability attainable to humans with training. Bilingual: Fyedka is fluent in Russian and speaks English with no accent. Background: Fyedka immigrated with his family at the age of 8 from Russia. He lived in cramped, low-income housing filled mostly with other immigrants, but was otherwise content growing up. Heavily influenced by his older brother, Mikhail, Fyedka quickly got himself into trouble, even first brushes with the law as young as 11. One day, he and his brother were creating mayhem in the city when they got separated. Fyedka had no idea how his brother managed to get away as the cops seemed to be swarming on him. He found himself spending that night in jail alone in a cell with a young man older than himself who was willing to bestow onto him the stories of how his life had fallen into shambles. The sight of the young man, his body emaciated by drugs, and listening to his stories opened Fyedka's eyes and he decided then to redirect his life. As he grew, Fyedka threw himself into whatever interested him and occupied every minute of time he could spare to sports, martial arts, and even ballet. The change in him thrilled his parents and even seemed to have an effect, albeit relatively mild, on Mikhail. One day, however, 17 year-old Fyedka and Mikhail's lives were shattered when they awoke to the smell of smoke in their tiny apartment. Though they could feel the heat around them, hear the crackle of fire and the snapping and popping of furniture being consumed, the entire apartment seemed to be plunged in a cloak of blackness. Though they tried desperately to find their parents, they eventually were forced to escape out into the hallway where they could finally see. Though they screamed for help and escaped through the window, the fire consumed their home, their possessions, and their parents. It took Fyedka mere days to discover that the darkness had come from him and that he had somehow emerged with meta abilities. The most obvious of these was the strange mark that had appeared over his entire back. When he confided this to his brother, Mikhail, the reaction was far from what he would have expected from his brother and close friend. Fyedka took several punches to the face, listening to his brother berate him with every venomous, angry slur in the book before he finally lost consciousness. When he awoke, he found himself staring into the faces of RAID officers. Working on instinct, Fyedka struggled against them and somehow managed to escape into the city streets. He now lives alone on the streets, hunted by RAID and his own brother who has since sworn to avenge his parents, no longer claiming to have a younger brother. Unbeknownst to him, the mark on Fyedka's back responds to his extreme anger. The mark will move and take over his entire body turning him into something bordering on berserk. Though he won't attack known friends or strangers, he will ruthlessly attack enemies and his powers seem to grow, making him stronger. The effect will only last until he calms down or runs out of enemies at which point he will feel completely drained and remember snippets of the incident but be unable to explain why or how. Anyone is welcome to take up Mikhail as an NPC to add to the fun. I can type up a short NPC description for him if anyone is interested. _________________

|  Name: Mikhail Romanov (NPC) Age: 30 Description: Mikhail has a bigger build and is muscular though not particularly toned. He has short, brown hair, dark eyes, and usually has stubble around his chin. His wardrobe varies with whomever he is trying to impress and can range from old jeans and a flannel shirt to slacks and a dress shirt. Though he can come off as a nice guy who'd give you the shirt off of his back, a deeper look into his eyes might reveal the anger and obsession that constantly mulls behind them. Personality: Mikhail has been slightly unhinged since his parents were killed by his brother who turned out to be a meta-human. He is completely obsessed with finding his brother and avenging his parents. While he has some invested interest in ridding the world of metas, his highest priority is first killing Fyedka with his own hands. While not especially book smart, Mikhail is extremely street smart, charismatic, and manipulative. In the time since his parents death, he seems to have forgotten how to love or even have affection for others, although he has not forgotten what it looks like and can play the part well. Mikhail will use any means necessary to reach his goal and is not afraid to put himself in harm's way, though he does fear death if for no other reason than a need to achieve his goal. Outwardly, however, he is a social chameleon and can be anything the other person needs in order to obey him. Skills: Fighter: While not formally trained, he has been in several fights in the streets since he was a child and can hold his own with his bare hands, a knife, or a gun. Street wise: Mikhail has been causing mischief on the wrong side of the tracks since he was a teenager and knows how to survive. Bilingual: Mikhail is fluent in Russian and speaks English with a slight accent Background: Mikhail immigrated from Russia at the age of 14 with his parents and younger brother, Fyedka. Always a bit of a troublemaker, Mikhail frequently snuck out, got in trouble in school and even with the law. Though his crimes were mostly petty, his parents were exasperated with his behavior and worried about his future, not to mention his influence on his younger brother. Mikhail and Fyedka were very close and he often included his younger brother in his escapades, even when Fyedka was as young as 9. Over time, Fyedka pulled away from his brother's habits, busying himself with his own activities and encouraging Mikhail to join him but Mikhail had already involved himself in some of the more dangerous people that lurked in the streets of the poor neighborhood. Though he loved his brother and openly admired his achievements, he had his own life and felt he was successful in them in his own right, despite what his parents thought. Still, he cared deeply about his family and did his best to help, even with stolen money or items. As much as he didn't want to hurt them, he was almost addicted to his life and loyal to those who ran in his gang. He lived with his family long after barely graduating high school. One day, he and his brother awoke in total darkness to discover their apartment on fire. Guiding his brother, the boys tried desperately to get to their parents but only barely managed to get themselves out. Left with only each other, Mikhail swore to look after Fyedka, that is, until a few days later when Fyedka confessed to being a meta and causing the darkness that had killed their parents. Mikhail had had run-ins with do-gooder metas and had seen more than one of his friends killed by them. Flying into a rage, Mikhail attacked Fyedka, severely beating him into unconsciousness. As he looked down at his brother bleeding on the floor, Mikhail no longer saw the little boy who had trailed behind him as a child. To him, Fyedka was dead and the young man lying on the floor was a monster who had manifested in his place. He quickly called RAID and told them what had happened. Unfortunately, just as RAID arrived, Fyedka woke up and somehow found the strength to escape. Mikhail did his best to hold him back, but his brother was always stronger and more agile and he took off into the streets before either Mikhail or RAID could catch him. Screaming in rage, Mikhail swore then to stop at nothing to hunt down the monster that had taken over his brother and kill him with his bare hands. He has since been lurking in the every corner of the anti-meta world from the criminal underground to the FBI and RAID. He is willing to do anything they need so long as when Fyedka is found, he is brought directly to Mikhail and allowed to deal with him in any way. He helps track down other metas in order to keep in good standing with RAID, but his main priority continues to be hunting Fyedka. _________________  |

Background and present Employment: A tough acrobatic Steel worker. Ned has a personable personality with co-workers, friends, women and people he would meet on and off the job. Ned is a man of action and likes to build fast bikes and street roadsters designed for speed. His co-workers nickname him ‘Clutch’ because if he wasn’t working or building fast bikes and street roadsters; he was racing on a track nearby.
Ned works for the Acme Steel Company as a steel worker. Acme builds skyscrapers. Ned has incredible abilities being able to work thousands of feet above the City of Chicago. He uses Acme Steel Company as his cover going after the known criminals.
Twenty-two years before, Ned was the Number #1 Acrobatic Stunt man in the country and performed for many famous Circus companies around the world. Ten years into the business at age 28, his performance was only seen at the big tent at Circus Circus Casino in Las Vegas. His ability to work closely with people with special talents and his personable personality won him many favors from the Las Vegas mob including invites to private mob parties where the bigwigs showed off their power.
Ned hated criminals, from the bosses to the two-bit scumbags that would steal $10 from a kid or shoot someone for no reason. Those bad guys needed to be put away and Ned was in no position to do anything about it.
It was at one of these mob parties that he witnessed a payoff in an exchange for a special weapon and was shot in the back trying to escape down a flight of stairs. The bullet hit his spinal cord, accidental flaw in which his body was bathed in an unknown industrial chemical mixture that also entered into his bloodstream through a gunshot wound. This caused a body-wide mutagenic process that transformed his physiology. Eel exists in a fluid state, either entirely liquid or solid. During recovery Ned finds out he can stretch his body like elastic at will and has complete control over his entire molecular structure.
Powers and Abilities: Malleability (Elasticity/Plasticity): He can stretch his limbs and body to super lengths and sizes. There is no known limit to how far he can stretch his body. But there are some time constraints.
Size Alteration: He can shrink himself down to a few inches tall (the size of a dollar bill) and stay this way all day long or he can stretch to become a titan (the size of skyscrapers) for about 1-2 hours a day depending if he shape-shifts during the same time.
Shape-Shifting: He can contort his body into various positions and sizes impossible for ordinary humans, such as being entirely flat so that he can slip under a door or using his fingers to pick conventional locks. He can also use it for disguise by changing the shape of his face and body. Thanks to his fluid state, Ned can open holes in his body and turn himself into objects with mobile parts. In addition, he can alter his bodily mass and physical constitution at will, there is virtually no limit to the sizes and shapes he can contort himself into. But each time he shape-shifts he becomes fatigue, although metabolism allows him to continue to shape shift; fatigue weakens the ability to contort and brings him back to normal.
Super Agility: These stretching powers grant Ned heightened agility enabling him flexibility and coordination that is extraordinarily beyond the natural limits of the human body.
Color Change: The only limitation he has relates to color, which he cannot change without intense concentration. He generally does not use this ability and sticks to his blue colored uniform.
Invulnerability: Ned's powers extraordinarily augment his durability. He is able to withstand corrosives, punctures and concussions without sustaining any injury (although he can be momentarily stunned). He is resistant to high velocity impacts that would kill an ordinary person, resistant to blasts from small detonations, and is completely bullet proof. His bodily mass can be dispersed, but for all intents and purposes it is invulnerable.
Regeneration: He is able to regenerate and/or assimilate lost or damaged tissue, though it does take a long time, it’s far faster than an ordinary human.
Mortality: Ned is aging at a rate far slower than that of normal human beings.
Ultrasonic Detection: His body will start to "ripple" when an ultrasonic frequency is triggered.
Weaknesses: His semi-liquid form remains stable at relatively high and low temperatures, provided that the temperature change is gradual. A sudden change induces a complete change of state, creating a truly solid or truly liquid form. Once thawed and reassembled, he was physically unharmed (though emotionally traumatized). Ned is weaken to extreme heat and was temporarily melted. Ned is also vulnerable to chemicals such as Acetone which melts and destabilizes his putty-like form, although he will eventually regenerate when the chemicals are gone.

| Easy Ned looks good, I would think that when Ned decreases or increases his size that he can only do this for a certain amount of time, having a near invulnerable dude the size of a sky scraper stomping around at will would kinda make the others heroes and villains in this thread obsolete. I like him though, I say put him in when you are ready and have fun.

| Changed some of his abilities adding fatigue that tires the poor chap out and zaps his abilities to shape--shift and stretch as tall as a titan for long perionds of time.
