Kwinn was only catching every third word or so of the conversation, his grasp of Elvish was tenuous but from what the ranger was hearing he could of sworn that the beautiful she elf said that she appreciated his attention, or something along those lines. This pleased Kwinn greatly, he had a feeling that he and the others would be staying in this magical place for a time and he looked forward to spending some time with her.

Her brother was less than thrilled to have humans among the unexpected guests . Aeolis was certainly not interested in seeing Kwinn take a liking to his sister. There was fire in the Elf's eyes as he assured the ranger that he would never be allowed to court Tanjee.

Kwinn was a man who enjoyed challenges, he knew what he desired in life and always moved straight ahead when desire inspired him. Kwinn had no inclination to anger Aeolis, nor thumb his nose at his Elf hosts, but he knew what he wanted. In his best broken Elvish he brazenly answered Aeolis' angry words.

"I have traveled a lot in human cities and wilds and in Elf lands as well and in both worlds it is the same, a woman has the right to make up her own mind about where and with whom she spends her nights."

Kwinn searched his mind for the correct Elvish words for the rest of what he had to say.

"Please understand that I am not here to make any inappropriate romantic gestures, nor do I even believe that she is interested, I just believe that we all have choices especially in matters of the heart."

Kwinn swallowed hard and drove the point home.

"I apologize if I have offended you, Aeolis my ass."

Kwinn had meant to refer to Aeolis as 'my lord' but not formally, there is a way of calling an Elf 'my lord' that is less formal than an actual title, it is like saying 'my friend' or 'my brother'. But the elvish words for this and the words for 'mule' or 'ass' are very similar and Kwinn had spoken the wrong word unknowingly.

Pleased with his pidgin Elvish he stood smiling at Aeolis.

Tanjee turned her attention to Kwinn when he stood up for her where Aeolis was concerned. She had an idea the man knew SOME Elvish tongue and was quite pleased with the words he was able to piece together to get his point across. She felt a pride for him within her grow and smiled as he more or less defended her actions.

But when he bumbled the words and referred to Aeolis as ‘my ass’, Tanjee saw the instant anger that filled her brothers eyes and she quickly placed herself between the two males. It was the first time in her life Tanjee had ever done such a thing to her brother and it seemed to take him enough by surprise that she was able to use it to her advantage. Using the common language for all to understand, she spoke to her brother.

”It was obvious he was searching for a more appropriate title and got his words confused. Hold your tongue and actions. I believe you have a royal guest that needs to be escorted elsewhere. I shall take responsibility of Kwinn and assure he will not insult another.”

Aeolis narrowed his gaze and glared down at his sister. He wanted nothing more than to swat her out of the way and run his blade through the human males body and take pleasure in seeing the life drain from his eyes. How DARE she step in front of him. Perhaps her time away from him had not been a good thing. He told the Elders it wasn’t a good idea to let her travel alone. Now it clearly shows she is more rebellious than ever.

When she offered to be the human’s chaperone while in the city, Aeolis blinked and raised his brows. If his sister thought to bring shame to their family by parading around with a human male, he wouldn’t stand for it. However, she made it clear what her choice was and if she were going to be that way, then it left him no other choice.

With a sneering smile, he let her have her way. With a twist.

“Very well, sister. Escort the human. But you will have an escort of your own.”

With a gesture of his hand one of the Elven guards that had been in the group that found the travelers seemed to materialize from no where and stand at Aeolis’ side. There was a look in the Elf’s eyes that let Tanjee know he was quite pleased to be chosen as her escort.

“Bren shall be your escort.”

Of all the guards to assign to her, Bren was the last one she wanted near her. Determined not to let her brother see how this frustrated her, she put on her best smile and took Kwinn’s hand in her own.

”If you insist. We shall be on our way now.”

Turning on her heel, she practically pulled Kwinn to go with her. Of course it didn’t take long for the human male to turn and go with her as she led him away form the Prince and his companion. Bren followed a few paces behind without saying a word. When Tanjee finally stopped at her residence, she turned abruptly to Bren and held her hand out for him to stop. Using her native language, she gave the Elf orders.

”You are not permitted to enter my home unless invited. Appointed escort or not. And I do not wish to invite you in.”

The guard seemed to sneer once more when he smiled but he placed his right hand over his heart and inclined his head respectfully without taking his eyes off the she elf. Tanjee turned and pushed on the trunk of a tree that opened up to reveal a residence within the large tree. Stepping inside she practically yanked Kwinn in with her then slammed the door shut, making sure it was locked.

When Kwinn started to say something she quickly turned and put her finger to her lips in the universal ‘quiet’ sign. The human did as she suggested and, while still holding onto his hand, guided him to another, smaller entrance on the opposite side of the residence. With some whispered words, the entrance cracked open and Tanjee peered outside. With the coast clear, she pushed the door open and slipped outside once more. As soon as Kwinn was out she whispered some more words and the entrance closed, seeming to disappear. Placing her finger to her lips once more, she turned and began walking away from the residence making no sound knowing Kwinn would do the same.

A little while later, Tanjee stopped at the base of another large tree but this time, instead of entering the trunk, she tugged on a thick vine hanging from the tree. The vine moved and created a flat, step like platform. Gesturing for Kwinn to step on the vine, she waited until he had his footing before she stepped up beside him and tugged on the vine once more. Slowly and gently the vine raised them into the air, high into the tree before it stopped at a large, thick limb. Tanjee stepped off and reached out to help Kwinn keep his balance as he stepped off.

As before, she pushed on the trunk of the tree and a door opened to reveal a residence. Glancing around to make sure they weren’t being watched or seen, she quickly stepped inside and closed the door behind them when Kwinn stepped in behind her. Breathing a sigh of relief, she turned and leaned her back on the door, closing her eyes.

When she opened them she saw Kwinn smiling at her. Realizing she was now…alone…with the human male, she wondered if perhaps she had done the right thing and grew very nervous. Using the comman tongue so he would understand what she was saying without mistake.

”We are safe here, Kwinn. No prying ears to listen to our conversations. P-please….make yourself at home. My mother…..would be proud to know her home would house a guest.”

Myth watched Rayann walk and look about and let a half smile creep onto his face. He could see it in her face and in her languag how she felt. In truth he was not overly happy to hear her proclimation he was not going to argue the matter. She felt drawn to be here and he knew best not to argue with the wills of certain members of the pantheon. He would simply except what was going to happen in the coming days and he would take it in stride for her sake. He walked up to her placing a hand upon her shoulder and returned her nod speaking softly "As my lady wills it so shall I endure..."

Myth had been so pre-ocupied with Rayann that he nearly missed Kwinn's comment and to Myth's credit he never even cracked a grin despite the overwhelming urge to do so. Though his immediate thoughts went to Aeolis and not Tanjee. Turning he caught sight of Tanjee's face for a moment before he focused on the flustered brother. Much as Myth had expected the guard captain reacted perhaps to harshly but as expected. However Tanjee's response caught Myth off guard and left him inwardly stunned watching the altercation unfold. Once more the young priestess reminded her brother of Myth's status as prince. She seemed to enjoy driving the point home and in his face. There was a story here to be certain but it would have to wait for now.

Shifting himself Myth reached out and was taking Rayann's arm so they could walk together when Kwinn stepped up to speak. The warrior wanted to sigh knowing this could go very bad if the ranger chose his words wrong. Myth let out a sigh of relief with each word that Kwinn spoke. Since the ranger was making a point to speak in elven he was choosing his words carefully and as such was thinking about what he said. There was a slight snort that Myth could not hold back when Kwinn let the last word slip. When Rayann looked at him there was a tear coming from his right eye as he tried his best to contain the laughter. He was prepared to intercede however knowing Aeolis would be enrged but that soft pull on his arm brought his attention to Tanjee as she interceded. Myth kept his thoughts open to Rayann's mind.

"She seems to be taking some delight in putting the screws to her brother... particularly when reminding him of my presence. I have a feeling things will be interesting for a while."

Myth said little more letting the scene play itself out. e noted there was unease in Tanjee's posture when her escort was assigned. Myth wandered if it was really necessary here in the city but said nothing only making a note of it for later. Kwinn may be an uncouth human but he felt Tanjee's honor was safe with the ranger. He shook his head as she practically dragged Kwinn off. He took in a breathe and put on a smile looking at Aeolis.

"It warms my heart to see siblings get along so well these days."

Myth motioned towards the path before them. "Shall we get moving along then?"

With a firmly planted look of disgust Aeolis spun on his heel leading down the path. Myth took Rayann's arm in his own and settled in following the guard captain. It had been ages since he had been home and he looked all around noting the subtle changes or lack there of. Something was twisting that nerve in his gut however and he felt a little at ease. Something was amiss but his senses couldn't pinpoint the discomfort. It seemed to permeate the air and proved to be quite distracting. Myth tried to brush the feeling aside as they walked and tried instead to keep his eyes on their guide an his escorts.

Myth began to speak of the forests history to Rayann as they walked along. How they ha converse with the woo to gain permission to build there homes here for without the blessing of the spirits his ancestors felt the city would fall to pieces. he recounted battles fought and both won and lost both on the out skirsts and high into the treetops themselves. It was a rich colorful history and its telling was a way for Myth to bide there time and keep his mind focused. After a short period of time they had begun to ascend a set of stairs that wrapped around a fair sized tree that led them into the canopy to a bride that led to one of the largest trees of the settlement. Myth's story finally came to a close as they crossed. Aeolis brought them before a great knot and bowed to Myth speaking with a fair bit of disdain in his voice.

"Your home... Myth... your things were brought here from the great city at your brother's request and stored here in the event that... as your father said... came to your damn senses."

Myth nodded his head and looked at the great knot a moment before looking at Aeolis "I expect that I will be seeing the council on the morrow as tradition dictates.... but do tell my father and mother that I have returned. I should expect one or the other may wish to see me before the morning comes..." Myth reaches out and tapped upon the wood and an opening appeared to let Rayann inside.

Rayann, like Myth, watched the interaction between the siblings with curiosity. Unlike Myth, though, Rayann was able to feel the emotions that were being passed between them and quite frankly, she didn’t care for what she was feeling from Aaeolis. Needless to say, they were all hostile and not a loving sort of emotion one would expect to feel coming from the sibling of another. And the underlying rage she felt gave her cause for concern.

And Tanjee was fearful yet she pushed the fear away and found courage to face her brother for what appeared to be the first time. And when Myth snorted and Rayann glanced up to see the tear shimmering in his eye, she furrowed her brows, pursed her lips and gave her white head a shake that was nearly unseen. Now is NOT the time for that sort of reaction. Especially as she felt the rage build within Aeolis. Finally the two came to a place where they agreed to disagree and Rayann let out the breath she’d been holding.

As Myth relayed to her mind the same thing Rayann herself was thinking, she was getting ready to respond to his comment when Aeolis made Tanjee take an escort of her own. Like Myth, Rayann caught the unease in Tanjee and her grip on Myth’s arm tightened without realizing what she was doing. Obviously the she elf didn’t care for this Bren that had been assigned to escort her and Kwinn around the city.

Of course, knowing Myth the way she did, she wasn’t surprised when he made the comment about siblings. Closing her eyes for a moment and sending up a silent prayer she hoped Aeolis would chose to ignore the words. Thankfully the guard Captain did just that as Myth suggested they get moving.

As Aeolis guided them through the city and Myth explained things to her, Rayann couldn’t help but look around in total amazement. The city was rich in culture and history and to be allowed to glimpse even a little of it, she would forever be thankful. The current of magic she felt moving through the city was never ending and she couldn’t help but smile as she could feel it moving more and more the deeper she moved into the Elven city.

But there was something troubling Myth. She could feel it as sure as she could feel the magic circulating all around her. Something about the city wasn’t settling well with him and she could tell he wasn’t exactly sure what it was. Only that there was something….different. Wrong, perhaps, but definitely different.

When Aeolis stopped and announced Myth’s belongings had been moved to this place by his brother, Rayann blinked and glanced to Myth. He’d never mentioned a brother. Had never even thought of a sibling for her to even pick up on tendrils he even had one. Needless to say, she couldn’t wait to get alone with Myth to ask him many, many questions that were forming in her mind.

As the knot was opened to reveal a residence, she peered through the opening then stepped inside glancing around. She heard Myth talking to Aeolis and as soon as Myth told Aeolis to inform his father and mother he had arrived, she instantly felt something deep inside Aeolis that made her stop and quickly turn to look at the Elf.

Aeolis seemed to narrow his gaze and inclined his head respectfully as protocol dictated.

“As you wish.”

Without another word he turned on his heel and marched away. When he guard Captain had disappeared form view, Rayann spoke softly to Myth from inside the residence.

”I don’t like him. There’s something about him that just doesn’t feel right. Like he’s hiding something but I don’t know what. Yet.”

Myth could only nod his head “Then that is indeed one thing we agree on. Admittedly that is but one of many things about him that annoys me to no end. Myth wrinkled his nose slightly before snorting.

“The boy exhibits a level of bravado and arrogance that does not suit one of his station. His family has served amongst the house guard for generations so I would expect some level of pride, but I can not fathom why my father or brother can tolerating such an ingrate.” He shook his head and let out a long sigh rubbing his eyes slightly taking a deep breath.

“Of course I could be expecting an undo amount of respect as well. I did after all choose to leave over my elders better wishes. The moment we came across Tanjee I felt long dormant things within my being stir. I have not been amongst the noble houses for a long time and my name is barely spoken of in whispers as it is. Yet I always seem to expect elves to act with some semblance of decorum in my presence.” He strides across the room looking around a look of frustration upon his face. “It is.... aggravating to say the least.”

He paced a couple times as he looked around the room. Things were in almost the same place they were when he left. He could see his mother's hand in everything. Jerrin would have requested the possessions moved at her request only. She probably saw to the actual moving herself. Myth could only sigh dropping his head looking down at his feet. The only person who showed any compassion at the time it seemed. With a breathe he pushed things aside in his head for a later time. There was enough to think on at the moment without reflecting on the past.

“The meeting will not be pleasant... They are likely going to take me to task for many of my actions. I do not expect it to go well in the least. Elves have been known to hold grudges for lifetimes and I know I spurned many a noble when I left town.” Myth walked away towards a table with an assortment of glasses and a teapot. He looked inside and mumbled something about being surprised to see the pot and took it without any visible water and set it over a small contraption that he tinkered with before speaking quietly. A small flame flared into existence and Myth stepped away scratching his chin.

He spun on his heel and offered a smile to Rayann and walked over taking her cloak and such setting it upon a hangar before offering a seat near an empty fireplace. IT was odd to see such a thing but upon careful inspection of the alcove it was clear it was constructed with the homes safety in mind. Myth took a seat opposite of her and sat down only after Rayann did. He sat in quiet contemplation for only a moment before he sighed.

“Home sweet home...”

He looked up and offered a light smile “Well at least this time it isn't quite as lonely.”

He could feel they were both feeling a bit put off and Myth was feeling particularly somber about being home. The more he looked around the more things ate at him but he put on a smile knowing she could see the pain behind the smile. He knew that a frown was just as likely to draw a comforting word as a sour thought but having only ever dealt with one empath in his life it was hard to remember to focus ones mind on the happier things as well as wear the smile.

Rayann could feel the tumultuous emotions within Myth. It was strange, really, to know this man so well yet not know him at all. She trusted him implicitly and knew he was no danger to her. Yet, she could almost feel as though he were trying to pull himself away from her. Almost as though he didn’t want her to be a part of this particular moment in his life. Knowing full well why he was doing such a thing, she let him have his space and merely observed him and the place he had been given allowing him to sort through his own emotions and thoughts.

When he took the teapot and set it over the flame he encanted, Rayann could feel his resolve at the situation yet could still feel the almost utter despair he had at the unknown. When he took her cloak and hung it caringly on the hangar, she smiled softly and knew he was doing his best to try and make her feel comfortable.

When he finally spoke to her and gave her that light smile, she knew she could approach completely now. Getting out of her chair and walking over to where he sat, she stood beside Myth and placed her small hands on his face, cradling it tenderly. Leaning down to gently press her lips to his for a moment, she pulled back and smiled.

”Things have clearly changed, my love. And what ever things you face, we shall face together. It’s been that way since the day we met and I’m not about to stop now. You can’t change what’s happened in the past. You can only change the here and now and what you choose to do in the future. The Elders must understand, while your actions were despicable yes, you were following orders. Like any good soldier does.”

Rayann could see the turmoil in his emerald gaze still.

”You can’t move forward until you shed the past, Myth. This reunion was inevitable. I know that now. But know this is merely the beginning of a new life for you. For us. no matter what happens here, we shall always have each other. And while I know it won’t be all that pleasant for you, I do know you will be a better man when this is done. Perhaps you can even get to the bottom of Aeolis' situation for clearly it isn't a normal one.”

"You are very beautiful...er, I mean your home is very beautiful..." Kwinn stuttered as he looked the Elvish home over, it was spotless and gorgeous, the furniture and Elf art blended seamlessly with the tree that grew around it, it was all the same in this enchanted village, it was as if the whole city had sprang from an acorn.

Kwinn was a little nervous to know that he was amongst a great number of pure blood Elf warriors, the ranger was used to traveling alone and had little experience in matters of diplomacy beyond a little barter and trade.

"Tanjee, do you think that my presence here has offended your brother and made things difficult for Myth as well?" Kwinn was less worried about breaches of etiquette and more worried about being forcibly booted from the wondrous city or worse. The Elves had far worse ways to punish disrespectful trespassers as well, they had powerful priests who knew ancient and powerful ways, they possessed magic that all other races desired and feared.

Kwinn put this last thought out of his head and went back to focusing on the pretty She Elf.

"How long has your family lived here Tanjee? How was this place built?"

As Kwinn looked around the home that used to be Tanjee mother’s, she realized he was more than a little curious about his surroundings, he was down right fascinated. While she didn’t find it all that incredible, she did realize this was not the normal sort of city humans are exposed to so she gave him a few moments to admire everything.

As Kwinn got acquainted with his surroundings, Tanjee went about getting some water in a small pot then walking over to an area and with a few shispered words in Elvish, a small flame erupted. Placing the water over the flame, Tanjee then collected a clean cloth and laid it near the water. When Kwinn asked about her brother, Aeolis, a shadow passed over Tanjee’s face. With a deep sigh, Tanjee tried her best to explain what she didn’t fully understand herself.

“My brother would be offended no matter who arrived here, Kwinn. Do not let his actions cause you any concern. It is just his way. He was not always this way. Competitive, yes, but down right hostile, no. Over the past few years he has changed. For the worse. He does not smile as much as he used to and I wish he would return to that same man I once knew. But I know you cannot bring the past back. Or at least I used to think that. With the arrival of Myth, I see a glimmer of hope that perhaps things will begin to change for the better. That is…if the council does not outright banish Myth and his lady. I pray to the Goddess the council will be more open to discussion then they have of late.”

Realizing she had been rambling, Tanjee blushed slightly then took the cloth and dipped the edge of it in the now warm water. Walking over to where Kwinn stood, she reached the cloth out towards his face, hesitated a moment then proceeded with her first thought. Ever so gently the warm, moist cloth passed over Kwinn’s forehead, cheeks and chin. Her free hand reached up to move the hair away from his skin as she continued her chore. Her eyes moved where the cloth touched his face and finally settled on his gaze as he asked his last questions.

Pausing a moment and letting her gaze stay locked with Kwinn’s for a moment, Tanjee finally stepped away from him and moved back to the water and dipped the cloth into it rinsing it out then wringing it dry before stepping closer to inspect his arm that had been injured.

“My family has been in this city since it was originally created. All of the families here have. Several generations have been born and died here. Some naturally, some not so. It is a magical place, yes, but we are not completely immune from outside forces who wish to do us harm. We do all we can to protect our city and ourselves, but we cannot protect ourselves from everything.”

Repeating the process with the cloth, she took his other arm now.

“It was built with love, understanding and magic. It is difficult to explain, but all of us who live here help build it and keep it this way. It is through our love of the trees, plants, animals and earth this place has been able to remain as it has. And it was with the magic bestowed upon us centuries ago we were able to manipulate the trees and allow us shelter within their sturdy, safe bodies. And it is only through understanding we respect them do they allow us to do so.”

Done wiping the worst of the traveling dust and dirt from his body she dared to access, Tanjee smiled softly at the human ranger in her presence.

“Worry not, Kwinn, you are among friends here and shall always be welcome in my home.”

Almond eyes watched closely as the strangers made their way along with Myth, the warrior that everyone know. The Sylvan might have had their internal differences, but their memories of the legendary were absolute, and Nim’Sul knew them all.

His mesmerizing, crystal blue eyes followed the rag tag group as they made their way into Kwinn’s brother’s house, and from the distance none of them would have even noticed him. He made his way to his King’s chamber, to report on his findings.

Nim’Sul entered the central castle and the guards swept low as he passed. The mark of the high mage embroidered with so much care into the front of his white robes, it seemed almost unnatural. Each step caused it to shimmer and shine as it twitched with the swirl of his majestic robes. The two guards at the main door nodded gently as he entered, Myth’s father seated on the Seat of Rule turned his gaze towards Nim’Sul.

“You bring news?”

“Yes my Lord, your son arrives, with party in tow.”

“Humans? As the scouts had reported?”

“Yes Speaker, a Druid and a White Robe.”

“You know her?”

“Of her would be more appropriate. Rayann Padraig, the one with violet eyes. She caused quite a stir when she broke the bond with her twin brother; he has not been heard or seen of since.”

The Speaker of the Stars stroked his chin gently and looked at the carving of his son Myth against the Northern wall, strong, standing like a true general. He swung his eyes back to Nim’Sul as he spoke.

“Do you think he has fully broken form her?”

“No one can be sure of that but if he hasn’t his sway over the white robe must be significant, for she would be able to tell if he had not.”

The Speaker nodded and Nim’Sul bowed his head respectfully, turning with the grace only a distinguished elf can exhibit, and exited the main hall. He made his way to the ivory tower adjacent to the main castle and peered out over the great city… “And so here is where it starts.”

There exists two realities on Krynn, that of its inhabitants, and that of its Kender. Yes, Kender are inhabitants, but they are unique in that their reality often revolves around their own perception of what and how things are. The Fiddlebows are a long line of Bard’s in the Kender race, and their talent for music that pierces the soul is known throughout the whole of habited lands, including the Orc’s and Goblins. Few have never heard the tales surrounding the Fiddlebows, and more often than not, when people have gotten over the fact that there is a Kender in their midst, they will warm up to them a little bit quicker.

The Fiddlebows however, are still Kender, and though the play marvelous music they are still handlers at heart with little to no regard about what is and isn’t personal property. Raspberry, the spunky daughter of Branch, who was the son of Twist, born from the daughter of Maple Fiddlebow, is without a doubt no exception to the rule.

--

The forest, a dense collection of the most fascinating twisted branches and leaves as big as your face stretched for what seemed infinity. Raspberry had been skipping along, following one of her Father’s maps and whistling that sweet little ditty about the drunken Dwarf who got his beard caught in the grain mill when she looked up with surprise. It was amazing to her that she never felt the dirt of the road switch to dew laden grass, and the way the wetness shimmered on her soft leather boots was simply the most amazing thing she has seen in the last minute. As she reached down to wipe away some of the moisture, a slug peered at her and winked, she giggled and picked up the fellow, placing him gently under the most incredible red leaf, tucking him in like a mother does a child for bedtime. The trees before her were dark and dense, the sunlight never reached that low, but the branches didn’t seem to mind as they twisted and twirled in the most wonderful spiral patterns.

She waved good-bye to the slug and began to walk, her hoopak sticking gently into the soft dirt with ever other step. She was amazed at how dark it got, seemingly with each step, and more often than she could count she would simply have to stop and look at the scenery around her. A whole day went by, the forest getting thicker and tighter, sometimes so knotted together that she had to belly crawl to pass by some of the trees. Finally, there seemed to be a small twinkle of light up ahead, it was hard to make out, but it was fascinating, and she aimed herself at it, focusing for the first time that day (even if only for a minute). Every step closer the little light seemed to move one step further.

“Come here little speck, little fairy light, I won’t hurt you! My name is Raspberry, Raspberry Fiddlebow, my friend’s call me Rasp, or Berry, but never Fiddle. I just want to look at you…”

The light teased her and taunted her as it began to dart through the trees; Raspberry began to sprint, giggling as she followed.

“This is a fun little game fairy light! Just when I thought this forest couldn’t get any more fun!”

Suddenly, the trees opened and the most amazing city, seemingly grown of the forest rose before her. She gasped at its beauty, standing in awe as her bright green eyes reflected the beauty which stood before her. She finally took a small step, and then another, and finally was running towards the gate. Two Elven guards saw her coming and stood in her way.

“HAULT!!” one of the Elves yelled, his voice was strong and commanded attention. Raspberry hit the brakes and slid to a halt, nearly barreling into the lightly armored guard.

“Little Kender, how did you get here?!”

“Oh Mr. Elf Sir, I was in the forest back there, and this most amazing little light was twisting and twirling, dodging and diving through the trees. I was simply dazzled by the little fairy thing. I started running, and this branch almost hit me in the head, but I dodged like this… and then I kept running and I leapt over a clump of branches like this… and then I popped through the clearing back there to find this most AMAZING city!! Did you grow it out of the forest?? It is simply the most fascinating thing I have seen all day! It is almost as fascinating as the time I talked to a red robed mage about how she made the fire dance across her hands, but she wouldn’t tell me her secret, ‘It’s a mystery of the moon’ she said.”

“OK OK, Just be quiet a minute!”

Raspberry clamped her hand over her mouth and smiled with a wink. The Elven guard turned to his fellow and spoke in Elven, the two nodded and turned back to Raspberry.

“We feel, in the best interest of Sylvanesti, you should go back the way you came.”

Raspberry’s little face turned down immediately and she nodded a sad acknowledgment that she heard them. She turned to leave and almost instantly heard a third voice behind her.

“HAULT LITTLE KENDER!”

She turned and a new Elf was standing between the others, he was magnificent in his appearance and stature, so much so that Raspberry felt a little butterfly in her stomach.

“Where did you get that lute?”

Raspberry looked puzzled, she immediately went into instinctual defend yourself mode…

“Oh Sir, I found this on my Father’s table, I swear I didn’t steal it! Stealing is wrong you know! I would NEVER steal something! Oh PLEASE don’t put me in the stocks again!”

The elder Elf smiled kindly and knelt down.

“Little one, are you a Fiddlebow?”

Raspberry looked up as she wiped a tear from her check.

“Yes Sir, I am Raspberry, Raspberry Fiddlebow, my friend’s call me Rasp, or Berry, but never Fiddle.”

“Well Rasp, you are a friend of the Elves, please, come in.”

Raspberry’s eyes grew the size of saucers, and the head of the gate guard lead her into the city.

“Now, Little Rasp, we welcome you, and I would like for you to play for us in the town square, the Sylvan could use the encouragement of your music in these dark times, but I want to warn you now about minding your manners and your hands, do you understand me?”

Raspberry looked at him, a little puzzled, but nodded simply to be allowed to walk the rest of the way into the city.

Myth could only nod his head slightly. Though he could only sigh at the simple notion that he had just been following orders. His mind began to veer down the dark path of the past but he reigned it in quickly. He needed to heed his companions words and not dwell on such dark things. He was certain they would be thrown back into his face soon enough as it was. Things on the morrow would predictable if anything.

He held her gaze and concentrated only on her lips in that brief moment of contact. “I will do as you say and not dwell... though I think it is easier said than done. Your presence will be a comfort in the coming days and I am certain I will need a pillar of reason in which I can rely on. I was well known for having a harsh tongue when it came to making my point.” He offered a smile slipping her hands off his face. “I am not one to skirt delicately around an issue... as you have seen.”

“Aeolis will have to wait until I have a chance to talk to father away from the public eye. If I even get that chance of course.” He lifted from his seat helping Rayann back to sit as the pot began to whistle. He shifted his attention to making their tea. “I would wager that someone will have arranged dinner for us this evening... I would think it prudent to...” He stopped in thought for a moment “check the meal for anything awkward.”

With tea made he poured two glasses and brought one to Rayann and offered it with a smile before tapping his head not speaking aloud anymore “Sadly my line of work has made me some what paranoid of food not prepared by myself or someone I am familiar with. Given our warm greeting by Aeolis it is one of many things I would preferred to be prepared for. I have no doubt there are ears about his place as well. I saw more than one eye lingering on us when we ascended to the treetops. I would like to think no one would be dumb enough to do anything but I am feeling to ill at ease to sleep unguarded.”

He leaned forward kissing her lightly on the cheek before he sat in his chair staring into the fire as he drank. Time seemed to slip past as both sat in silence and before to long there came a knock. Myth roused himself from his seat and answered opening the door he offered a toothy smile. An attendant outside owed slightly before speaking “Evening M'lord Myth, we were told that since your arrival was most unexpected that your home was ill equipped for guests and we were to see to your meal needs this evening.”

Myth looked and behind the elf were several others with varies trays and a cart. “That was quite... thoughtful. My table is set so please..” With a motion of his hand he directed the elf to enter and pointed to the table. Servants wheeled the food in and were gone just as quickly. Only the one elf remained and he addressed Myth once more. “I hope everything is to the lord's liking. A messenger will be posted nearby if the lord needs anything more during his visit.” The man bowed before exiting the door.

Myth only looked at Rayann and then the table shaking his head when everyone had left.

There was no doubt in Rayann’s mind she would give all the strength and comfort to Myth she could in the days that were to come. Myth hid his true feelings well but she was no ordinary person. Her empathetic abilities were growing each day now and the intimacy they shared made it almost impossible for him to hide what he was truly feeling from her. And right now, he was feeling a great deal more than he was showing. It was difficult for her to walk that fine line between what she really knew and what he thought she knew but in the end it was always what he thought she knew that won. Rayann dared not let Myth know any differently for fear he would somehow find a way to bury himself away from her and the thought of that was far more frightening than anything else.

Now, more than ever, Rayann was glad she had even broached the subject of creating this mental link with the hardened warrior who posed as her escort. When he explained his statement about the meal, it all made sense. It wouldn’t be the first time someone had defeated an enemy by tainting the food they ate. And Myth had a point when he mentioned the welcome they received from Aeolis. Hopefully not ALL of the Sylvanesti people weren’t like HIM. And if they were, things were far direr here than either of them had thought.

The soft touch of his lips to her cheek could still be felt as she let him be with his thoughts. All Rayann could do right now was pray to her God Myth’s thoughts didn’t stray to the darker side like they started to earlier. Things were going to be trying enough without worrying about him slipping to a place she would have a lot of trouble getting him back from.

When the knock sounded on the door, Rayann looked to the door then to Myth and arched the fine brow over her left eye and nodded.

~By all means, feel free to let me know of any other things like this before they happen. I like being prepared. It’s much better than being blind sided.~

As the Elves brought everything in and placed it on the table, Rayann observed everything about them. Their mannerisms. The way they looked at both of them. How they handled the food trays. Everything. Since elves were naturally curious, she wanted to see just how much attention they paid to the guests they were serving and she was relieved to find herself not disappointed. All of them made sure to glance at both Myth and herself noting the curious glances she received and the awestruck glances Myth received. Not one of them seemed to be concerned with the way they handled the food trays, making certain they didn’t touch them in a wrong place. Of course they entire time Rayann was swimming through their feelings and some random thoughts and all she found was curiousness, awe and nervousness to make sure what they brought was fit for…well…a Prince. When they finally left, Rayann looked to Myth and tilted her head slightly.

~Well, from what I picked up on while they were all here, none of them are out to do you harm. I’ll make sure the food is fit to eat.~

With a glance at the food, Rayann walked over closer and slowly waved her hand out over the table of food. Her lavender eyes glowed softly as her lips moved as she recited a spell that would detect any evil contained within the food. After a few seconds, she sighed as the glow left her eyes. Looking over at Myth she smiled brightly, picked up something that looked sweet and delicious, took a bite of it and let the warrior know all was quite well.

~This stuff is so good….you might not have to worry about eating it as I will take care of that for you.~

Nim’Sul stood on the terrace, his jet black hair waving softly in the night air. He watched from above as the young elves came out of Myth’s dwelling place, they were chattering to themselves and he could sense their relief at being done with the duties of serving the Prince for the night. He drew in the magic that flowed all around him and focused, whispering the spidery words of an ancient and lost language, the language of magic. Solinari granted him the power millennia ago, just after the creation of the Elves from the Greystone, and he had wielded magic for far longer than most had drawn breath.

For as far back as any Elf could remember, Nim’Sul had been chief advisor to the Speaker. Highly patient by nature, he always brought calm to the situation, and his wisdom was always timely in hard situations. Like any elf however, he was plagued by these dark times facing them, and the advances of the Dark Queen had them all on edge. Nim’Sul however had maintained his same calm and royal demeanor, staying the calm bulwark of sound, grounded behavior he had always show, at least on the surface. Inside, he was in turmoil, torn between the loyalty he held for his race, and his deep love of magic. Nim’Sul had never in his thousands of years taken a wife, or a lover. He was married to magic, and his devotion to his god made him one of the most powerful Wizards on all of Krynn. He had been a member of the Council of Mages before the cataclysm but never took the headship as his loyalty, at the time, remained with the Speaker of the Stars. He remembered distinctly the arrival of the twins, Rorie and Rayann, said to restore the balance of magic, two that were one, twins that shared a mind. Their power was their unity, their strength was their fearlessness.

Many, including Nim’Sul, questioned Solinari’s logic when he poured his power into these twin humans, but they were not to question the gods, and never once did they, but they prayed for clairvoyance in the situation. Hearing the cry of the deepest magic when Rayann severed the connection only furthered the curiosities, and the select mages that were wise and strong enough to feel the rift that occurred that day had kept it silent. What a foolish thing, and her youth could not be held responsible. The very fabric of the moon god’s magic was torn that day, and the damage could still be felt to those with the sensitivity to tap into it.

The spidery words left his tongue, and he could hear Myth and Rayann’s conversation. They feared the food… he rolled his eyes and turned on his heels, quietly walking back into his elegant and ornate room. He unrobed, hanging his garments on the hooks and sat at his desk to work. His thoughts lingered on the situation, and what would happen in the king’s chamber tomorrow, the reuniting of the son and the father, the general and the commander in chief, the prince and the king, the fabric of Krynn was being shredded from the core of the planet outward and Rayann was wasting her time casting “detect evil” spells on food. The stupidity of youth was something he could never understand.

Kwinn was feeling comfortable in Tanjee's dwelling, the Elf woman had prepared a small meal and the Ranger was trying not to stuff the whole lot of it in his mouth.

"I must admit my lady, I suffer from strong hunger, our trip here was not slowed by many meal breaks. That fine rabbit we shared was many days ago, forgive me if I eat with enthusiasm."

Having said this the ranger ate faster, occasionally wiping his mouth on his forearms and letting a few belches slip.

When Kwinn had finished the fine meal he walked to the balcony that every home seemed to have. Looking out he saw some Elves bringing some things to where Myth and Rayann were staying. The Elves were all about rules and traditions and they served their newly returned prince well.

"Your people have long memories, will they simply welcome Myth back? Can a prince really ever come back home?"

Kwinn looked out across the tree villas, there were so many of them, their beautiful natural balconies looked out onto the center of the city. Across the open expanse of the city center Kwinn could see an Elf in white robes frowning down from his dwelling. He was clearly a mage like Rayann, his sour face revealed thoughts of displeasure.

"This man of magic seems a bit put out with us being here, ...I mean me and Myth and Rayann"

Kwinn wondered again if his visit here would be one of pleasure or something else all together.

The return of a long lost prince, the appearance of a human woman who was a follower of Solinari and a scruffy human ranger, these things were not simple matters to sort out. On the positive side, these wise Sylvan elves did make rash decisions, they did not act or react out of fear or phobia. The elves would give these things a good measure or thought before they acted one way or the other.

Tanjee ate with Kwinn, but took her time eating. Unlike her human companion, she didn’t want to seem too eager to eat. Still, she couldn’t help but chuckle to herself as she watched him consume most of the food. Thankfully he left a little for her to consume. Kwinn’s natural curiosity almost rivaled her own. Almost. And Tanjee was glad to answer any of the questions the ranger had, as honestly as she could.

”Myth will have much to answer for. Of that, there is little doubt. But the fact he is a blood prince cannot be ignored. And with his lady friend being a follower of Solinari, that may aid him in gaining favor with his people once more. That is, if they can forgive him of taking up allegiance with the Dark One.”

Tanjee watched as Kwinn walked out ontot he balcony. While she would have preferred he stay inside and not reveal the fact they had moved from the dwelling they had been originally assigned, she knew she couldn’t stop the curious human either. And truth be told, she secretly hoped Aeolis found out and was rather upset. In fact, she couldn’t help suppressing the smug smile that showed on her face. But when Kwinn mentioned Nim’Sul, Tanjee quickly joined the human ranger on the balcony and saw the look the mage had on his face as he looked towards Myth’s dwelling. As the robed magi turned and made his way into his tower, Tanjee furrowed her brows and looked towards the dwelling Myth and Rayann occupied as well.

”It is difficult to say, Kwinn. Nim’Sul has been an advisor of the king for as long as I can remember. Perhaps it is the fact Myth and Rayann are here without previous announcement of their arrival. He is a fair and just mage and I am sure he will advise the king accordingly. No doubt he will want to talk to Rayann as well.”

She looked to Kwinn and smiled.

”It is because of Nim’Sul I decided to walk the same path my Mother walked.”

Her smile faded then as she looked back to the empty balcony on the ivory tower.

”I pray I do not disappoint him.”
