I, too, am leery of inviting Vampires into the site, however, after getting engrossed in the HBO series "True Blood" I think we can give SOME consideration to them.

I'm not familiar with VTM but I have seen some stories on other sites people have created and I don't really care for them. Like Tiph and Lac have stated, they are so self gratifying (and I understand that's what vampires are all about) and the way they were written didn't set well with me at all. There was definitely an air of arrogance that didn't set well with me (again, I know that's the way vampires are portrayed, even some of them in True Blood).

Vampires are undead creatures, however, they DO have weaknesses. But in some of our stories, I can see vampires not being undead creatures, but a creature that has evolved due to what ever reason and while they are very much alive, they have all the other traits of vampirism.

They can't come out in the sun or risk burning up (not in a sudden combustion, but a slow, painful process that literally turns their flesh to charred remains)

They CAN die by staking.

Silver does render them immobile and harms them.

Garlic is not an all powerful repellent but it IS an annoyance for them.

They are not repelled by a cross or holy water and they can enter on holy ground.

They CANNOT enter a mortals home unless invited in and that invitation CAN be rescinded at any time and they would be unable to enter into that house until the invitation is given back.

They cannot change into bats, wolves, black mist or any such things as that.

They are stronger than humans and the older they are the stronger they become.

They can move at incredible speeds when necessary.

They can 'glamour' a mortal and influence them to do what they want them to do.

A person can get bit by them but it won't 'turn' them into a vampire.

Mortals can drink vampire blood and it will heighten all of their senses as well as heal them at an incredible rate of speed. Of course the worse the injury, the more the mortal needs to consume.

The vampire will need to replenish their blood if they loose enough of it.

Vamps will cohabitate in a 'nest' and this can cause a sort of 'survival of the fittest' mentality between them.

There are some vamps who see humans as 'blood bags' and think humans are the lesser species but there are those who want to co-exist with humans as well.

Vampires have their own law enforcement called sheriffs and marshalls. Sheriff’s are responsible for certain geographical areas while Marshall’s control much larger areas and the Sheriff’s report to the Marshall’s. Tribunals are held to punish vampires that break the laws of the vampires or commit crimes against other vampires. The Marshall oversees the tribunals and he is the judge and jury for all matters. The Sheriff is usually the eldest vampire in the region and the Marshall is older than any of the Sheriff’s in their AOR.

For example, a Sheriff will control California, Washington & Oregon and the Marshall will control either all of North America or all of the US.

I think we could allow vamps on the site as long as they realize we will not tolerate them being 'holier than thou'. AND they can only be in certain story's. Either ones that are specific for vampires or in certain other stories that has room for such creatures, ONLY. And even then it has to be approved by both the story moderator AND Admins. Also, because vampires are carnal creatures, we need to make sure the posts don't get too raunchy. While we're all adults here, I don't want the site turning into some sort of written pornography and bringing people to the site just to get their jollies off.

I agree with RPm with under those conditions I would say, with trepidation, lets give it a try. On a trial basis, we need to have the option of disallowing them if it gets out of hand.
Thoughts?

As I stated before... my 'apocalyptic version' of a Vampire, the 'Necromorph' is not an magical, undead being in the classic sense, that being said, if a story line involving the typical 'Bram Stokers' style Vampire should develop I trust that it would be conducted in a manner that would dissuade those 'unsavory' individuals from joining in.

It is interesting that the mention of 'Vampyre' warrants such discussion, but not surprising, given that those sites are crammed full of people who role-play in an explicit sexual manner which in my own personal opinion is not story telling.

Many sites that have a Vampire theme, that is run well, have a few little disclaimers that simply ban any players from writing anything explicitly sexual and forbid any characters that are designed specifically for sex.

If set up properly the gates will hold, but I feel we are no where near that point yet.
(There is nothing in the site's code that allows a search engine to draw Vampires here.)
